The Night of the Redhawks (NOTR)

The Night of the Redhawks is Western’s annual athletics awards banquet , that typically takes place in the first week of June. It is a great celebration of the year that was in athletics, highlighting the many achievements that our teams have made.

Tickets are included in the team fees of most team sports for all athletes. For individual sports, tickets can be purchased in May after the lunchtime announcement of the Athlete of the Year nominees. Extra tickets can be purchased for family members subject to availability. Many awards are given out the night of the awards banquet.

List of Major Awards given out at the Night of the Redhawks 

Grade 10 Male and Female Athletes of the Year

Grade 11 Male and Female Athletes of the Year

Grade 12 Male and Female Athletes of the Year

Melissa Bone Memorial Award: A bursary award presented to an athlete in the area of basketball, cross-country, or track and field who displays qualities of leadership and commitment to sport.

Mark Caron Memorial Award: Awarded to an athlete who has overcome a major obstacle.

Ward Steckle Memorial Award: Awarded to a Grade 12 Female and Male Athlete who have demonstrated academic achievement and contribution to the school’s athletic program.

Carey Asplund Memorial Award: A bursary award presented to a Grade 12 Female and Male Athlete who are being recognized for their dedicated hard-working attitude. A caring, loyal teammate that leads and inspires others in a quiet way and makes sure all teammates feel included and accepted. 

Jonathon Andrews Memorial Award:  In memory of Jonathan Andrews who consistently showed support for student athletes, taking responsibility for his role while exhibiting a positive attitude and a good sense of humor. To be awarded to a grade 12 Student who shows continuous support to Western’s Athletics Program in a variety of ways, i.e. trainers, managers, photographers, statisticians, mascots, sports medicine.

The Calgary Booster Club Al Holm AwardAwarded to a Grade 12 student-athlete demonstrating exceptional athletic performances, involvement in the community and a strong commitment to academic excellence. 

Kevin Fennessey Memorial Scholarship: Awarded to the top Male/Female Athlete for their outstanding contribution to Western's Athletic Program in multiple sports over three years.
