Career & Life Management

CALM Curriculum

CALM 20 (3 Credits)

Career and Life Management is a mandatory course required to earn a high school diploma in Alberta.  CALM is a life-skills course developed to enable students to make well-informed, considered decisions and choices by developing behaviours and attitudes that contribute to the well-being and respect of self and others, now and in the future. It is typically offered in Grade 11 and can be completed in the classroom or online. The in-class CALM course brings in community experts from various community organizations to create an interactive, informative and engaging learning experience.  The online course is completed independently through D2L and offers students flexibility in their timetables.

In CALM, students will:

  • apply an understanding of the emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, physical, occupational, and environmental dimensions of health.
  • demonstrate responsible financial decision-making to reflect their values and goals and to demonstrate commitment to self and others.
  • apply strategies to manage their wellness and lifelong career development.
