Band 10 & Band 15AM (Day Block Band & Gr.10 Concert Band)

Prerequisite: Previous instrumental experience, described by one of the following:

  • At least one year of instrumental experience within the past three years through your junior high band program
  • Private lessons on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument in at least one of the last three years
  • Students with string or piano experience are also able to enroll in this course

This course is an ensemble based music performance course. Students enrolled in the Band 10 day block class should also be enrolled in Band 15AM (Gr.10 Concert Band) for an additional 5-credits. Band 10 is a timetabled class which runs in the first semester only. Band 15AM is a co-requisite for students enrolled in Band 10 and runs for the full year in the AM block. If you are a full IB or partial IB student, it is important to note that your enrollment in the Band Program will support you in achieving your CAS outcomes each of your three years.  

Band 15AM (Gr.10 Concert Band) meets on Tuesday and Friday during the AM block before school and runs for the Full Year for 5 credits.

Band 10AM (Gr.10 Concert Band)

Further development of technical skill and facility on the instrument is the focus of this ensemble based music performance course. Students enrolled in Band 20 during the day block timetable should also be enrolled in Band 25AM (Gr.11 Symphonic Band) for an additional 5-credits. Band 20 is the timetabled class which runs in the second semester only. Band 25AM is a co-requisite for students enrolled in Band 20 and runs for the full year in the AM and PM block.

Band 25AM (Gr.11 Symphonic Band) meets on Wednesday during the AM block before school and Friday during the PM block after school and runs for the Full Year for 5 credits.

 

Band 20AM (Gr.11 Symphonic Band)

Instrumental Jazz

Jr. Jazz Band 15/25/35

Co-requisite: Must be enrolled in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Wind Ensemble

Junior Jazz Band is a performance-based instrumental ensemble open to grade 10-12 students. This ensemble focuses on the development of jazz repertoire and improvisation techniques. The group performs multiple times throughout the year for school-wide events, local concerts and festivals. 

Students rehearse twice a week on Monday and Wednesday during the PM block after school and the course runs for the Full Year for 5 credits.

 

Sr. Jazz Band 15/25/35

Senior Jazz Band is an auditioned performance-based instrumental ensemble open to grade 11-12 students. This ensemble focuses on the development of jazz repertoire and improvisation techniques. The group performs multiple times throughout the year for school-wide events, local concerts and festivals. 

Students rehearse Tuesday and Thursday in the PM block after school and the course runs for the Full Year for 5 credits.

 

Jr. Jazz Combo 15/25/35

Co-requisite: Must be enrolled in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Wind Ensemble

This performance-based instrumental ensemble is open to grade 10-12 students. Students will work on basic improvisation techniques and the interpretation of different jazz styles in a safe and supportive environment. 

Students meet twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday during the lunch block and the course runs for the Full Year for 3 credits.

 

Sr. Jazz Combo 15/25/35

Co-requisite: Must be enrolled in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble

Senior Jazz Combo is an auditioned performance-based instrumental ensemble open to grade 11-12 students. The focus of this course is on learning and improving improvisation skills, learning jazz standards, and performing in several community and school concerts. 

Students meet twice a week on Monday and Wednesday during the lunch block and the course runs the Full Year for 3 credits.
