- Scrapes and scratches, or any injury that can be treated with ice and cleaning with soap and water and a band-aid will be dealt with at the school.
- In the case of sprains, severe cuts, or contusions, home will be notified immediately to decide what actions should be taken.
- In the case of open and or heavily bleeding wounds, broken bones, unconsciousness, etc. the school will call an ambulance and parents immediately.
- Accident insurance is provided upon request and forms are sent home in September.

Allergies
We are committed to providing a safe environment that is inclusive for all children. A number of our students have a potentially life-threatening allergy to peanut and tree nuts. Parents of children with allergies must fill out appropriate forms (also available in the office) and ensure the school has the necessary medication on-hand should a reaction occur. We ask that parents who are sending in classroom treats, please avoid the noted products. Staff is trained annually in the administration of an Epipen.
Lice
We work closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure that we are responding to cases of lice appropriately. If you receive an email from the school regarding head lice it is important for you to check your child for lice using the information in the attachments.
Some important things to remember about lice:
- Head lice do not cause disease.
- Head lice do not go away on their own. They must be treated.
- Head lice are not a sign of poor hygiene.
- Head lice do not hop or fly, they crawl. They are spread through direct head-to-head contact, or through sharing objects or clothing that come into contact with the head.
- Research shows that head lice are not transmitted through classroom carpets.
- Head lice can live up to 48 hours away from a human host. They cannot survive in the classroom over the weekend. If they recur in a classroom it is because a human host is bringing them back into the classroom.
- Pets do not transmit head lice.
- Children with head lice should be treated and can attend school or child care as usual. We do not exclude children from school due to head lice. We also do not isolate children or their belongings from the rest of the class because of head lice.
- If we were to have head lice recurring in the same class or multiple cases of head lice in the same class we would work with Alberta Health Services and the families in question to ensure that we are responding appropriately.
