Security

Visitors & Volunteers

All Visitors and Volunteers must sign-in at the office as Wildwood School is a secure building. All visitors must enter through the front door as all other doors will be locked. Visitors will now have to buzz in to attain entrance to the school and then go directly to the office and sign in at the register. Volunteers must fill out the Annual Volunteer Registration Form.

Early Student Dismissal

A student may not leave the school prior to regular dismissal times without getting permission from the office. Students may not go home until someone in authority at home is contacted to give permission. When leaving the school even with a parent/guardian, students must stop with their parent/guardian in the office and be signed out. Upon arrival back at school, students must check in at the office. Students wishing to leave for medical or dental appointments, or for other reasons, must bring a note or the parent must contact the school.

Telephone Messages

Should an emergency arise, students have access to the phone in the main office or in their classroom by asking permission from their teacher. During instructional time we do not disrupt the classroom teacher with incoming phone calls – the office staff will take messages and ensure they are passed along at the appropriate break time. Please honor the need not to disrupt teachers and classrooms during instructional time unless it is an emergency.

Supervision Policy

Outdoor supervision of students is provided 15 minutes prior to school opening and during the noon hour. Lunchroom students are supervised for the whole noon hour by lunch room staff as well as teachers.

Students should arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to the school bell. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately to play outside. On days of extreme cold, high wind chill factor or heavy rain, students should proceed into the school immediately upon arrival. Students will wait in the hallways and will be supervised until the bell rings.

Staff supervision teams are deployed to the compound, field and playground areas. Supervisors can be identified by their fluorescent orange vests.

Before and after school, staff supervise the loading of the busses at the front of the school. Students are encouraged to go directly home or to a caregivers as no playground supervision is provided by the school.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
