Welcome!
What is the School Council and what do we do?
School councils are structured groups of parents, principals, teachers, secondary students and community representatives who work together to effectively support and enhance student learning.
- support every student's learning experience;
- keep parents connected with school activities;
- act as a sounding board for administration;
- arrange Guest Speakers for parents;
- represent WAHS at the CBE’s Council of School Councils (CoSC);
- represent WAHS at the Alberta School Councils Association (ASCA)
Under the School Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.
Who is on the School Council?
Every parent or guardian of a student at William Aberhart High School (WAHS) is automatically a member of the WAHS School Council.
