FALL IS HERE....and it's beautiful AGAIN this year

What a great start to the school year. It's so great to see our students still outside enjoying PE and our learning grounds; exploring all great things connected to this beautiful land we get to enjoy. Fall sports are in full swing and our hallways are starting to fill up with beautiful ACL projects and art pieces. So cool I can reflect again this 2023 fall and have the same great feelings and comments to make!

November Update

Hello Willow Park Families,

Time is certainly flying by! It is hard to believe that November is already underway. Each day at Willow Park is filled with learning and creating. Students are building strong bonds with each other and with their teaching team. Our school community continues to grow stronger each day. Our students are active in their learning, exploring the curriculum, seeking support and interacting with new concepts through the Arts Centered lens.

We continue to grow our understanding of the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, anchoring learning to the quadrant the Body- To Do, looking at the concepts of independence and collaboration as well as risk taking and resiliency. The art work of Lance Cardinal is in focus as we explore these big ideas.

We are proud of our student athletes who have participated, thus far in cross country running, soccer and volleyball. We commend our leadership students who have organized so many events already, including class challenges and teacher appreciation day.

Our Fine Arts team is busily preparing for our school-wide recognition of Remembrance Day, as always thinking of creative and meaningful ways for us to honour this day.

We were thrilled to welcome performance poet Wakefield Brewster, who shared his passion and talent with our grade 9 students. We also welcomed Kyle Charles, virtually into our classrooms, to share his craft of writing and illustrating comics. We look forward to many more artists joining our learning journey this year.

What a great start to the year we have had!

Hello Willow Park Families,

It has been a wonderful start to the new school year here at Willow Park School. Students and staff alike have returned with enthusiasm for the year ahead.

Students have commenced learning in and through the arts and many rich tasks are already well underway. Students and their teachers have explored the concept of belonging, guided by the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, and creatively and visually represented their understanding. Moreover, there is excitement surrounding the return of sports teams, both soccer and cross country are off to a fantastic start. There are many more opportunities to get involved on the horizon.

We miss you too parents, but ACL is alive and well at WPS

Although our November virtual school conferences were very successful using MS Teams for the first time, we know that our parents/guardians missed coming into our building to see all of the hard work our students have been doing since the start up in September.  Arts-Centred Learning is alive in our hallways and our classrooms. When you have a chance, please speak wirh your child about what they see in our hallways, open lockers and classrooms.

Leadership activities bringing us together!

Huge shout out to Ms. Romanchuk and her grade 7-9 Leadership students for providing WPS staff and students with exciting opportunities and challenges to show our school spirit!

Students just completed a spirit poster showcasing all the members of each homeroom.

What's Next??
Students are now designing and decorating a pumkpin to win huge points toward our whole school challenge board.

Terry Fox Run - What a Success - September 23rd *UPDATE*
What a great day was had by all supporting the 40th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run. Students ran/walked in their anchor cohorts on one of 3 courses our PE team set up; so that students could physically distance while supporting this great cause.

Homeroom teachers collected  'Toonies for Terry' all week long as one of our first homeroom class challenges that Leadership students will be providing us throughout the year. All money collected will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research. UPDATE - WPS students donated $975 towards the Terry Fox Foundation.

Congrats to 5-1 winning the TF class challenge of bringing in the most money!
