Attendance

Attendance Line 403-777-7430 ext. 1

Late Arrival, Illness or Early Departure

All late students must report to the office and sign in before going to class.

We appreciate parents calling to inform us when they anticipate that their child may be coming to school late. The decision to excuse a late is at the discretion of the school. Late entries that occur as a result of sleeping in or missed buses are generally unexcused.

Tardiness is disruptive to the learning environment. We expect students to be on time for classes. Chronic lateness may result in school administration intervention. Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis and may result in supporting the student through an Attendance Improvement Plan or further action as required. Extenuating circumstances will be dealt with on a case by case basis through the school administrators (principal and assistant principal).

Extended Absence

Any lengthy absence from school will likely adversely affect student academic progress. Students who are absent from school for an extended period (i.e. more than five days) must fill out an Extended Leave Form. The form is available in the office. Extended absences that are used for personal reasons (i.e. not for medical reasons) are not recorded as excused absences. Students are expected to make arrangements to keep up with, or make up for, any work missed. A student ‘keep up’ or ‘catch up’ plan will be made in consultation with teachers, the student and the parent/guardian.

Student Sign-Out

Students who need to leave school prior to dismissal time must follow the sign-out procedures listed on our Security page.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

We believe there is a strong correlation between attendance and effective education. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students regulation applies to all of our students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
