Expectations for student behaviour
For information on the CBE code of conduct, which outline the roles and responsibilities of students and employees, visit our Code of Conduct page.
Our goal is to create a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment. As per Calgary Board of Education Administrative Regulations, we utilize a progressive student discipline approach that includes a continuum of universal, targeted and intensive interventions, supports and consequences at the classroom, school and system levels and builds upon strategies that promote positive behaviours. Students are expected to respect the rights and dignity of others and to proactively participate in promoting and fostering positive relationships with others.
We demonstrate respect through:
Respectful behaviour towards students, staff and visitors.
A respectful attitude towards student and school spaces and equipment.
Wilma Hansen School believes strongly in ensuring the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of each of our students. To ensure the best learning environment for all students, the following inappropriate and unacceptable behaviours will be disciplined up to and including suspension:
- Bullying, harassment, or repeated and hostile physical, verbal, social, and cyber behavior intended to cause harm, fear or distress.
- Being in possession of, under the influence of, or associating with anyone having to do with drugs or alcohol.
- Engaging in or threats of physical violence.
- Using profane language to address any person in the school.
- Involvement in the theft of property.
- Defacing, vandalizing or destroying school property.
- Violating the Code of Conduct while off campus, on the school bus, during a field trip or extracurricular activity.
Should any of the above occur, school administration will work with students and families to ensure the necessary learning has taken place to reduce the likelihood of a similar incident occurring in the future.
If it is deemed necessary by the school administration, the school Resource Officer, who is a member of the Calgary Police Service, will be involved in the disciplinary process.
