Courses for study in junior high school fall into two categories, core and complementary. The combination of core and complementary courses is designed to provide students with skills, knowledge and attributes that meet their diverse needs, capabilities, and aspirations.
Courses at the junior high school level adhere to Alberta Education standards and requirements. The core courses, which are compulsory for all Grade 7 students, are:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Physical Education
In addition to these core courses all Grade 7 students have the opportunity to experience courses in CTF (Career and Technology Foundations) and Fine Arts.
Complementary courses offer students a variety of new learning experiences. They include:
- Computer Programming
- Outdoor Education
At Wilma Hansen School, Grade 7 students are also able to choose to take Band or French. Learner Support is available to students who would like or who need support beyond what is offered in the academic classroom setting.
Complementary course selection forms are located under links on this page.
