Courses for study in junior high school fall into two categories, core and complementary. The combination of core and complementary courses is designed to provide students with skills, knowledge and attributes that meet their diverse needs, capabilities, and aspirations.
Core Courses
Courses at the junior high school level adhere to Alberta Education standards and requirements. The core courses, which are compulsory for all students, are:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Math
- Science
- Physical Education
- Health
In addition to these core courses all Grade 7 students have the opportunity to experience courses in CTF (Career and Technology Foundations) and Fine Arts.
Complementary Courses
Complementary courses offer students a variety of new learning experiences. They include:
- Art
- Foods
- Design
- Computer Programming
- Drama
- Outdoor Education
- Woodworking
- Photography
At Wilma Hansen School, Grade 7, 8 and 9 students are also able to choose to take Band. .
