Principal Year End Message

Queridas familias,
It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is here.  For me, it has been a true pleasure to join the WO Mitchell community this year.  The 2021-22 school year has brought many memories for us to share.  Although we are still going through the Covid-19 pandemic, students were able to go on field trips, dance along with our artist in residence and skate through the inline skating residency that we held.  Our community, including students, teachers and families have demonstrated resiliency and flexibility, and this has enabled them to take full advantage to continue their learning.  As we head into the summer break, it is important to reflect on the many successes that our students had over the year.  Our students do great work and are extremely enthusiastic in their learning!  If any evidence is needed, all I need to do is to think about the last two weeks of school.  We held our Spring Showcase, where students had the opportunity to share the work they have completed in their music class.  In addition, we also had our first annual Maker Faire showcase, where students demonstrated their ingenuity with projects ranging from cooking experiments to homemade robotics.  It was a blast to see students interacting with each other as they shared their work.  This year, our school development plan focused on increasing students’ oral fluency in Spanish.  Over the year, teachers and students have worked towards this goal and it is exciting to hear the result in classrooms and hallways.  As we close this school year, I want to express my gratitude to all of you for trusting us with your most valuable possession – your children.  We have enjoyed being part of their lives and their learning journey.  We wish our grades 5 all the best in their new adventures, and can’t wait to see the rest of our students on September 1, 2022.  I wish you all an amazing summer!.Gracias por todo,Erick NoriegaPrincipal
