Kindergarten

Classes begin on Sep. 1 or 6, 2022 with a staggered entry schedule.  Thu., Sep. 1, 2022 for children with last names starting with A-I, and Tue., Sep. 6 for children with last names J-Z. The first day for all children is Wed., Sep. 7.

Teachers will meet children on the west wall compound (near the creative playground). They will be wearing name tags and orange vests, and once they have collected their children, they will bring them into their class. Before bringing your child to his/her teacher, please check-in to the Kindergarten Welcome table, located in the middle of the compound. If possible, please know the letter(s) of your child’s bus(es) when you come to school.

In preparation for September classes:

  • Bus maps and schedules will be available at the school on Aug 30 & 31 between the hours of 9:00am – 3:00pm. They will also be available on the Calgary Board of Education Website.
  • Once you know your child’s bus letter – record this, along with their address and emergency contact information somewhere safe on your child’s backpack (ex a nametag).

If your plans have changed and your child will no longer attend W.O. Mitchell, please notify the office as soon as possible, 403-777-6100 ext. 0 or email us at womitchell@cbe.ab.ca.

Assigned Teachers

To view our complete staff list, please visit the Our Staff page. Teacher and classroom blogs may be found on our Classes & Departments page.

If you provided your email address on your child's registration form, your child’s teacher will send you an email the day before school starts, introducing himself/herself to your family. Teachers will meet children on the west wall compound (near the creative playground). They will be wearing name tags and orange vests, and once they have collected their children, they will bring them into their class.

If your child is taking the bus on the first day, staff will meet children at the bus and direct them to their teacher. Please make sure that your child knows what their bus letter is. If you are dropping your child off on the first day, but plan on taking the bus later, please let your child’s teacher know the bus letter.

If you are dropping your child off, please say good-bye outside.

Class Lists & Placement Requests

Please know that your child’s current classroom teacher will spend much thoughtful time strategically placing students into each years’ classes to best support their learning and social needs. This work usually begins the end of May.

We do not accept parent requests for teacher-specific student placements in any grade, nor do we accept peer requests. Please do not ask your child’s teacher, or administration to do this. Going forward, if you have information about your child that you believe we may not know, or that has changed, but that may impact success in next grade, please put this in writing to the attention of Principal Erick Noriega. This information will be held confidentially.

Lunch Supervision

Lunch Hour:  Varies by classroom:

Grade 1 and Grade 2 - 11:40 AM - 12:25 PM

Grade  3, Grade  4 and Grade  5 - 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM

For more information visit our Lunch Supervision page. Learn more about Lunchtime.

Students supplies are provided by the school for children in kindergarten through Grade 6. Families are to provide indoor shoes (non-marking), backpacks (large enough to carry reading and homework books), lunch, and snacks. You may also choose to send your child with a water bottle. Please ensure that all your child’s items, especially their shoes, are labeled properly.

Information Packet

On the first day of school, each child will come home with a information packet containing important information, please give the information in the packet the attention it requires.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
