​​​Every student who is new to the CBE needs to register at their designated school. Everyone has a designated school based on their home address and the program they choose. You can find your designated school by using our Find a School tool. Contact us for more information.

To register during a health emergency:

  1. Print and complete the Student Registration Form - Dependent Student including signatures, then scan or photograph a copy of the form and save it as a PDF.
    If you do not have access to a printer, complete the form (without signatures) and attach it as a PDF to an email with one of these statements:
    • “I declare that I am of the Roman Catholic Faith” or “I declare that I am not of the Roman Catholic Faith”, and
    • “I hereby represent that I have the legal authority to register the person named on the attached registration form. I declare the information that I have provided on this form is complete and accurate. I will immediately notify the school of any changes to the information on this form.”
  2. Scan a copy or take a photo of the child's proof of age and legal name document (e.g., birth certificate, passport, court document).
  3. Email the school and attach the registration form and the proof of age and legal name document.
    Use our find a school tool to determine your designated school.
    To find the email address of a school:
    • Find the school in the School Directory;
    • Click on the school name; and
    • copy the email address.
  4. The school will conditionally register the child providing the address is within the school’s designated boundaries and the student is age appropriate for the school.
    Once the health emergency is over, the school will email the parent / legal guardian who completed the form and ask that they bring the following documents to the school for verification purposes during the school office hours:
    • proof of address document with the parent’s / legal guardian’s / independent student’s name (e.g., utility bill, bank statement, income tax statement, federal correspondence, property tax assessment)
    • original of proof of age and legal name document which the school will compare to the emailed document
    • photo ID of the person who completed the form to verify their identity.

Once your school has registered the student, you will be able to create a MyCBE / PowerSchool account. This online account lets you register for services and pay fees.

To register new students during the COVID-19 pandemic follow the steps outlined in Registration on the Calgary Board of Education website. Look on the Kindergarten to Grade 9 or High School Registration pages.

Out-of-Boundary Students

If you would like to transfer from one CBE school to another, please refer to the instructions in the request to transfer form.

When you are transitioning from elementary to middle school, you will be automatically registered at your designated school (according to your home address and program).​​​​​​​​​​

What School is Next​ 

Every child in Calgary has a designated school based on their home address and the program they choose. If you are going to be attending your designated school in your current program, registration is done automatically through your current school’s main office. To find out what your designated school is, use our Find a School​ ​tool. You can apply to attend any school, even if it is not your designated one. Each principal determines if their school has capacity to accept out-of-boundary students, usually after enrolment numbers are determined. For more information, contact ​the school you are interested in attending. Transportation services may not be available if you are attending a non-designated school.​​​​​

Notice of Intent

This is a brightly colored sheet sent home with each child where we are asking parents to advise us, as best as possible, of their plans for the following school year.

There are many shifting variables as we consider how many people we can accept into our school, into which grades, and into what program. While we recognize that you may not be sure what your plans are for September, all information provided is in fact useful data. With the opening of the new schools in Tuscany and Royal Oak/Rocky Ridge, we know that attending a school close to homes is now a feasible option. How many are staying, how many are returning to community schools, and how many are unsure for next school year–this is all important information for us to consider as we make decisions for next year.

Particularly important is the question regarding current non-school aged children. We appreciate knowing how many siblings to expect for kindergarten registration in the coming years in advance of offering placement to new students.

Please return the Notice of Intent form promptly by the date of return stated on the form. If you have misplaced or lost your copy, please contact the school office to obtain a replacement.

Transferring to A Different School

If your student will no longer attend W.O. Mitchell School, please notify the office at 403-777-6100 as soon as possible. Please leave a message if no one answers the phone. We will be happy to facilitate the transfer process for you.
