Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-8630 ext. 1 (available 24 hours)
Email: woodbine@cbe.ab.ca

If your child is going to be absent or late, parents are asked to contact our attendance line and leave a message.  Messages should be left prior to 8:55 AM for the morning attendance and 1:00 PM for the afternoon attendance.  This is a 24-hour automated phone line, so messages can be left in the evening for the next school day.  Please state child’s name, grade, homeroom and reason for absence.  For every day your child is absent you are asked to call in and let us know.  Alternatively, you can e-mail woodbine@cbe.ab.ca – please state child’s name, grade, homeroom and reason for absence.  Messages are greatly appreciated as they save the office a lot of time and concern.

We look forward to having all students arrive at school on time! This is beneficial to their learning and to the learning of all students in their classroom. We ask all parents who bring their children to and from school to please be respectful of our school hours.  Should your child be late for school, they must report to the School Office prior to going to their classroom.

The School Act states that all students are expected to attend school regularly and to be at school on time. If your child is going to be late or absent please phone/e-mail the school (see above) to advise of the length of absence and the reason. Students arriving late to school must report to the office where they will pick up a welcome slip prior to admittance to their class.

Phone in for Safety

Our Absence Line is checked twice each day. We will attempt to contact you if your child is late or absent and no previous notification was given. Please leave the following information:

  • name of student(s)
  • grade(s)
  • teacher(s)
  • reason for absence or lateness
  • length of absence if known
  • If a reason is not given, student will be marked unexcused. Parents will be contacted if we have not received a message.

Picking up Students for Appointments

When picking up children for appointments, please remember to:

  • inform the office and teacher beforehand so that your child is ready
  • come to the office so that your child can be called
  • your child will not be called down to the office until you arrive to pick them up.

If students are leaving over lunch hour and normally stay for lunch, they will need to be signed out at the office. If your child is not to take the bus home, you can call 403 777-8630 and press “2” for the lunchroom/busing line to let our Busing Assistant know.

Holidays, Transfers & Moves

If families are planning to go on holiday or are moving, advance notice to the teacher and office staff is appreciated. Parents are also reminded to keep the office informed of any address or telephone changes that may occur throughout the year. Please complete the Extended Absence Notice form for any extended absences, understanding that vacations will be an unexcused absence. Forms are available from our school office or from CBE website.

Lates

Students are expected to arrive at school in time for the entry bell. Important instructional time is missed when students arrive late and timeliness is a life skill. We ask parents to help us teach this skill. The Alberta School Act requires that we work together to support children in this learning. When students arrive late, they will need to stop by the office to sign in and to get a welcome slip before going to class.

Phone Messages for Students

We request that parents do not phone the school to leave messages for students. Unless it is an emergency we are unable to accommodate these requests.

RT @RoyaloakCBE: On dress like your favourite book character day, there were princesses in the wetlands, living alphabets, and creativity found throughout the school. What a fun way to embrace the energy that fills June! #wearecbe #getoutside https://t.co/jOtfCyD22x

RT @WesternRedhawks: This past year, a committee of students has been hard at work gathering student voice and consulting with Elders and Knowledge Keepers in the planning of a garden in the courtyard area off of the main foyer. #wearecbe https://t.co/r5VyCRdCX9 https://t.co/CuBU8EuVan

LAST CHANCE to register for yellow school bus transportation. If you do not register by the June 11 deadline you will not be included in route planning for the fall and may be responsible for transportation for the first six weeks of school. https://t.co/EV8CAc6U9H #WeAreCBE https://t.co/wi3SDZ4VaI
