Attendance Line: 403-777- 8240 ext. 1 or email woodbine@cbe.ab.ca

It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line or school e-mail.

Illness

If your child is not feeling well or is displaying symptoms of a cold, flu or any illness, please keep them home.  We do not have facilities at school to care for sick children. If you are working parents, please ensure that you have a back-up plan for your children to be looked after in case of illness. If you have questions about health policies on communicable diseases please contact Alberta Health Services at 403-944-7200.

If your child is ill or is accidentally injured while at school, the following procedures will be followed:

The school will contact the parent/guardian or emergency contacts listed on the student file.

If the contact person cannot be reached, the student will be made comfortable at school until contact is made.

If the injury or illness is serious, the school will access the appropriate medical systems and notify parent/guardian as soon as possible.

If Your Child is Sick

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please call the office at 403-777-8630 or email woodbine@cbe.ab.ca. For more information, please see our Attendance page.

Medical Information

If a child has allergies, or any medical condition, parents are required to complete the Student Health Plan each year.  Additionally, conversations with teachers or office staff may be necessary. All health concerns of any students must be recorded by the parent on the “Student Demographic Verification Report”. As well, the form entitled “Student Health Plan” must also be completed and submitted to the School Office. If your child requires school personnel to administer medication, please deliver the medication to the office for safe keeping and administering.

Should your child have a significant health concern (i.e. Diabetes, Epilepsy, Severe Allergy, etc.) you will also need to complete the Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form and submit it to the office.

Allergies

Please make sure that the office and your child’s teacher are informed of any allergies that may affect your child’s health and safety.

Please DO NOT send peanuts or peanut products to school with your child.

We would like you to be aware that we have a number of students in the school with severe allergies and would greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us to ensure the wellness of these students. We cannot legally guarantee a nut-free environment so we must remind both parents and students about the possibility of nuts causing severe allergic reactions in some people. We encourage all to be sensitive to this issue. Children are also reminded to eat only what they bring and not to share treats in case of allergies.

Injury

The safety of all children is extremely important to us! Safety rules and consistent expectations help us to ensure the well-being of students, staff and visitors. All of our staff members have First Aid training. Minor injuries will be dealt with at school and parents will be informed of any incident either by a phone call or a note in your child’s agenda. If a more serious injury occurs, parents will be contacted immediately and appropriate actions will be implemented.
