Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year

Back to School Information

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is August 31, 2023 and the school office is open to parents on August 28-30, 2023 from 09:00-3:00 pm.  Teaching staff will be reaching out to families at the end of August to make introductions so that you are aware who your child's teacher will be for the 2023-24 school year.

Our Kindergarten students will have staggered entry on August 31 and September 1 - timings for staggered entry are detailed in the welcome letters sent to individual families.  Essentially this means not all Kindergarten students will start school on the same day.   Please refer to your family's individual letter for exact date/time of attendance for your child.   Please reach out to the School Office if you have questions about Kindergarten staggered entry.

Regular Kindergarten classes will begin on September 5, 2023.  Kindergarten families, please meet your teacher on the compound (bottom of hill).

School Supplies

Woodbine School provides students with basic student supplies these will be distributed to students in the first few days of school.  Parents are asked to provide students with a large backpack, indoor shoes (velcro if your student cannot tie shoe laces), water bottle and a peanut free lunch (if you are part of the Lunch Supervision program, Grades 1-6 and staying at school for lunch) and a healthy snack. Indoor shoes are brought to school the first day of school and left at school. Many backpacks and shoes look alike; please label ALL student possessions.

Lunch Supervision

Lunch Registration

In order to eat lunch at school in our lunchroom program, all students must be registered. For more specific information as to cost and registration procedures, please see our Lunch Supervision Lunch Supervision page.

Registration and payment is done through MyCBE

Woodbine School operates a four-day lunchroom program for all students from Grades 1 - 6.

Please remember to call our lunchroom line to report a child’s absence/drop-in at
403-777-8630 extension 2.

Woodbine School operates a “Peanut-Aware” lunchroom. We discourage peanut products in the lunchroom but cannot guarantee a “peanut free” environment. Please let us know if your child has food allergies and requires support. For more information on how to deal with allergies, please see our Illness and Medical page.

Snacks and lunches should be easy for children to manage. Hot water and microwaves are not accessible for students.

During lunch recess, supervision is provided for students attending the lunch program.  Students who go home for lunch should return no more than 5 minutes prior to the 1:00 pm entry bell and line up with their class to re-enter school.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
