Principal's Message

Have a Great Summer

Dear Woodlands Families,
This has been an exceptional school year to say the least.  We have faced numerous challenges and adversity during these unprecedented times.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank students, families and staff for your ongoing support and unwavering commitment to learning this year.  As a community, we have all navigated the new school processes and guidelines with care and professionalism.  It is important to recognize the learning and skills that were developed as students collaborated, problem solved and persevered through new and different learning opportunities this past year.  The resiliency our learning community has demonstrated during these past ten months is something I am extremely proud of.
Although different, we have had an amazing year of learning!  We need to celebrate the students and their ongoing efforts to learn in this unprecedent year.  We saw times were Woodlands students, families and staff successfully pivoted to at home learning and back to in person learning with minimal disruption.  We hosted and participated in Kindness Month, Winter Walk Day, Orange Shirt Day and Pink Shirt Day to strengthen our community. The students and staff worked to build a strong foundation of kindness and wellness this past year through virtual assemblies, social stories, peer activities, and the development of personal strategies to support individual goals.  Our need to be social and to feel connected is real, and we know that these skills will be utilized by all as we return to school in the fall.
Planning is underway for what the 2021-22 school year will look like for our students, staff and families. We have learned from the processes we implemented this past year, and realized some aspects of our entry plan have been very successful.  We will maintain our soft entry in the mornings for next year, as this facilitated a calm start for many.  The CBE is currently planning for the re-entry of schools and will be sharing guidelines and processes with school principals in August.  The safety and well-being of our students and staff will continue to be a priority in all decisions made.  More information will be provided to families before the first day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020 and we encourage you to monitor your email and both the CBE and Woodlands school websites for the most current information.
Student final report cards for the 2020-2021 school year are only available to be viewed online and will not be printed.  You can view the report card starting June 26 by signing into your MyCBE/Powerschool account.  Please note that teachers are available for appeals (questions, comments etc.) about report cards Wednesday, June 30 from 8:30am – 12:00pm.  Please contact the main office by phone and we will connect you with the classroom teacher for a telephone conversation, should you feel the need.  The school office remains open for all other business until Wednesday June 30 at 1:30 pm.
Reminder, the main office will open again on August 27 at 8:30am should you require assistance.  We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the first day of the 2021-2022 school year on September 1.  Families can expect to receive a welcome email from their next year's teacher in late August that will provide important first day instructions, contact information and expectations for the year.
On behalf of the staff at Woodlands School, I wish you all a safe and happy summer.  Thank you to all our families for making Woodlands an amazing place to grow and learn.

RT @Indigenous_cbe: Today is fall equinox - a time when daylight & nighttime share the sky equally. Today is also Treaty 7 Day - the 144th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 7. The 🌞 & 🌙s equality today teaches us how to honour the walking together in equal partnership. #welcomeoko

Guess what... Tomorrow is the first day of fall. The leaves will be changing colours and the crisp winds of autumn will be blowing. It is a great time to remind ourselves to check the weather report each morning so that we are dressed for success.

This Thursday evening and Friday will be our first Parent-Teacher interviews, if you have not yet booked, please be in touch with the office...we can help with the online system.

This week, we continue to focus on our spirit to be and remind ourselves how important healing and human relationships are. It is very important to ask for forgiveness when you have done something wrong to someone else. Asking for forgiveness is always a good first step.

We are starting to get ramped up for our annual Terry Fox Run. Later this week, we will hear from our grade 4 students whom have taken a leadership role in this year’s run. Remember to #tryliketerry in all that you do.
