One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the School Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

School Council

2019-20 Year End Message

Now that the year is almost done, I would like to take the time to acknowledge the achievements of our parent volunteers this past year.  This school year at Woodman we have seen the most engagement from parents in the four years I have been at the school.  It was a wonderful feeling to see all the support our families at Woodman gave the school in so many ways.  I cannot name all the volunteers but know that whether you provided food for teacher appreciation, went on a field trip (or multiple), supported our fundraisers with time or money we really appreciate all the support.

A special thank you and farewell to Diane.  Diane has been a rock star volunteer over the past three years at Woodman.  She was the treasurer for the Band Council, she has organized the Purdy’s fundraiser for the past three years, and she worked very diligently to bring in the very successful Healthy Hunger program.  We will miss her energy and get it done attitude at Woodman.

The Purdy’s Fundraiser brought in over $2,000.00 to help pay for community engagement events (Cabin d’sucre & welcome back BBQ).

  • Thank you to the team of volunteers it took to run the Healthy Hunger program your work brought in over $4,000 to support our students and school programs.
  • Thank you to Gosia for leading the Chapters fundraiser and all the volunteers that evening that promoted our fundraiser.  Due to your hard work we were able to provide the library with over $2,000.00 worth of gift cards or books donated that evening.
  • Thank you to Nicolette for starting up our first ever Cheque Writing Campaign.  Although it was cut short by the cancellation of classes, we now have a wonderful base to continue with, if we chose to carry on with it in coming years.
  •  Thank you to all who spent time at our biannual casino volunteering.  Your time and effort allowed school council to receive $67, 260.60.  This money will go a long way in supporting our programming at Woodman. Our next Casino will be the fourth quarter of 2021.

Due to your fundraising we were able to provide the school with ~$26,000 in support this year (~1/3 of their operational budget).  Our accounts for going into next school year sit at $64,366.94 (parents educational society) and $4,969.79 (School Council) which will allow us to continue supporting our students and staff.

Playground Committee

Thank you to Kari and her team for working so hard on trying to get grants to build the playground. It has been a busy few years and hopefully it will all pay off soon.

Lastly to Carrie (secretary), Kerry (volunteer co-ordinator), Silvia (treasurer), and all parents who attended our meetings and gave such great insight it was a pleasure to work with and talk to you this year.

Enjoy your summer.  See you in the fall.
