Important Dates

We follow the CBE Traditional Calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

The Alberta Government announced on July 21 that schools will be in Scenario 1 as of Sept. 1, 2020.

The CBE's 2020-21 re-entry plan is subject to change as more information becomes available from the province. We will continue to update schools with more details during the next school year.

You can find the COVID Self-Assessment Tool (daily checklist) in the Government Resources section on the CBE website.

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020 and the school office is open to parents starting on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 at 8:30 AM.

Take a virtual walk with us around some of the main areas of the school to give you a sense of what things look like at Woodman.

Staggered Entry Days – Tues. Sept. 1, Wed. Sept. 2 and Thurs. Sept. 3

Notwithstanding all of the nervous energy that the return to classes creates (especially this year), I am confident that if we are calm and clear in communicating health protocols, students will be well positioned to remain safe, healthy and happy while at school. As such, we have decided to create three days of staggered entry, in which smaller groups of students come to school to learn more about some of the changes they will experience this year. Students will report to school for one day of staggered entry, as follows:

Tues. Sept. 1, 9:05-3:40 Grade 5, Grade 6, and Grade 9 students only
Wed. Sept. 2, 9:05-3:40 Grade 7 students only
Thurs. Sept. 3, 9:05-3:40 Grade 8 students only
Fri. Sept. 4, 9:05-1:30 All students

School Start & End Times

Our bell times are:

  • Warning bell 9:05 AM
  • Monday to Thursday 9:10 AM - 3:40 PM
  • Fridays 9:10 AM - 1:30 PM (Early Dismissal)

Noon Supervision

Grade 5 & 6 students will eat in the lunchroom, monitored by lunchroom supervisors, and followed by outdoor play.

Woodman School is an open campus for Grade 7-9 students.

School Supply Lists

Please see the following links with suggested student supply lists that will be helpful to reference in preparation for the return to classes.  It is not required that students come to school on the first day with all of these items.  Families are encouraged to recycle materials from previous years.  Those who are unable to bring their own suggested supplies will be provided them by the school, while following health protocols.  Every attempt is being made to reduce the sharing of materials. Please ensure that personal supplies are well labelled with the student name and grade.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Do You Have a MyCBE / PowerSchool Parent Account?

Parents who have not already done so, must create an account in MyCBE / PowerSchool to:

  • Pay fees or apply for a waiver

  • Register for transportation and noon supervision

  • View student progress

To create a new account, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe and click on Create Parent Account. You will need to have your child(ren)’s CBE Student ID Number and use your email on file at the school.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2020-21 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in May. While CBE Transportation continues to accept pre-registrations, these will not be considered until route changes are done after Thanksgiving.

COVID-19 Changes

  • Riding the Bus Flowchart and Checklist
  • Only registered students have bus route and stop information provided through MyCBE / PowerSchool; this is to control the number of students accessing a bus in order to support maintaining healthy distances
  • Only registered students should use transportation services
  • Students are assigned to one stop based on their primary home address for general transportation; alternate stops will not be available
  • Students will be assigned a seat by the driver; students must adhere to the seating plan
  • Students must complete the AHS health assessment every morning before leaving for the bus stop. Students or family members with COVID-19 symptoms must stay home.
  • Masks are mandatory for students K-12, including on school buses
  • All service providers will follow Alberta Education and Alberta Health COVID-19 guidelines
Please visit our Covid-19 Frequently Asked Questions page, Transportation Section for more information.

More information about 2020-21 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE / PowerSchool. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.
