Security

We take safety and security seriously. It is important that we maintain a safe and caring community so that learning can take place.

To ensure the safety and security of staff and students, exterior doors are locked daily and remain locked for the remainder of the day. The front main door will be unlocked from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. For safety reasons, at times it is necessary for the main doors to be locked from a portion of the day. If you need access and the door is locked, please ring the bell.

Visitors & Volunteers

Our school is a closed campus. All visitors and volunteers must report directly to the main office to sign-in and request permission from the school administration to be in the school. This process helps us know where you are in case of an emergency and allows staff and students to know you have signed-in with the office staff by wearing your volunteer/visitor badge.

In order to ensure school security, all exterior doors will be locked after school commences each day. Anyone who is not a student or school staff member is required to sign-in.

Accidents

The details of any accident are to be reported immediately, either to a teacher or to the Main Office for appropriate documentation and/or communication.

Student Searches

In the event that school safety and security is a concern administration has the right to complete searches of student lockers, student property or personal belongings at any time.

School Resource Officer

The role of the Resource Officer is to provide guidance and act as a legal resource for teachers, students, parents / guardians and the community at large. Part of this role is to encourage communication and greater understanding among young people and the Calgary Police Service.

Video Surveillance

Students and parents must be informed that, to maintain a safe and secure environment at school, our schools use a number of surveillance cameras in and around the school.

  • the video surveillance system will be used to record and may be used to monitor and record activity; and
  • personal information collected by the video surveillance system may be disclosed for disciplinary, legal, legislative or law enforcement purposes or in accordance with a court order or the enforcement of a Calgary Board of Education administrative regulation 1066.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
